Why vision boards?

I have a deeply personal connection with vision boards, and I wanted to share my reason for combining them with a yoga session.

A.   Because they work and help keep my goals alive.
B. In my 20’s I suffered some long-term memory loss after being quite unwell from a virus and I’d forgotten how to read and write properly. I found that I could relate to pictures easily and it was surrounding myself with pictures of loved ones and places I connected with that helped me to move forward.

It was scary when it first happened, not knowing certain things, not understanding how much memory was gone and being concerned that I might wake up and not remember anything!

At the time I was attending the then Knoff Yoga Academy and it was here that I found myself really beginning to put my body, mind, and life back together. It didn’t matter that my recollection of life past and present didn’t look the same anymore, the yoga helped me to let go of the attachment to who I was and gave me the tools and confidence to carve out a new version of who I wanted to be.

It’s too long a story for here, but let’s just say my yoga practice held me stable, calmed my fears and doubts, gave me safe places to land in my body and when my mind was grounded and open, the flashes of inspiration would come.

If you can ever remember what it feels like to have a flash of a thought so strong that you could picture the outcome in your mind, then you’ll appreciate what it feels like to then find a physical picture similar to that vision and put it up somewhere as a reminder to keep guiding you towards it.

It’s the reason why vision boards work so successfully because our thoughts are often much like a photograph and our visions appear as pictures. Similarly, our dreams are often full of symbols etc. and it was at this time that I started to interpret my dreams as well to guide me to live my life with fullness.

I could talk all day about how much I love it but put simply, when I lost my memory I was given a blank canvas to create whatever I wanted to be or see myself doing as my future self and it was all those years ago that picture boards of loved ones and vision boards for my business and life etc. have become a beautiful thing for me and I wouldn’t be without one.
